When flu season starts be ready. Here is more information about seasonal flu and pandemic H1N1 and what you can do to keep your family healthy and your children in school.
California middle and high school students must be vaccinated against pertussis (whooping cough)
Under a 2011 California law, all students entering 7th through 12th grades in both public and private schools are required to show proof of a pertussis (also known as Tdap or whooping cough) booster shot BEFORE starting school. Please check your child's immunization records and if he/she has had one, bring proof to your school immediately. If he/she has not received one, make an appointment today and bring proof to the school as soon as your child receives it. Your child will not be allowed to start school in August without proof of a Tdap given after the 7th birthday
In addition to the Tdap booster, there are several important vaccines recommended for preteens and teens including the meningococcal vaccine, a second chickenpox shot (if they never had chickenpox disease), and the HPV vaccine series. Everyone older than six months old is recommended to receive a seasonal flu vaccine.
